Kick chat overlay
A Kick chat overlay for OBS with real Kick emotes and badges
Connect your Kick channel, drop the Live Chat widget into an overlay scene and add one browser source to OBS. Your chat appears on stream with Kick's own emotes and badges, styled the way you want, and messages your mods delete disappear from the overlay too.
How to add Kick chat to OBS
Sign up, connect your Kick channel, and open the overlay editor. Add the Live Chat widget to a scene and size it where you want chat to sit. Then copy the scene's browser-source link, and in OBS add a Browser source and paste it in. That is the whole setup: there is no extension to install and no chat popout window to capture and crop.
Because it is a browser source, the background is transparent, so the messages sit straight on top of your gameplay or camera.
- One OBS browser source, transparent background
- Place and size it visually in the editor, not by typing pixel values
- Test messages from the editor so you can style it before you go live
Kick emotes and badges, the way chat sees them
Kick emotes show as images, animated ones included, and you choose how big they render next to the text. The badges Kick gives each chatter, like subscriber, moderator, VIP, OG and founder, sit in front of their name.
When a moderator, or Kick's own AI moderation, deletes a message, it is removed from the overlay as well, so something your mods caught never stays on screen.
- Animated Kick emotes with adjustable size
- Kick's chat badges in front of each name
- Deleted messages disappear from the overlay
Style it to match your stream
Pick the font, size, text colour, outline and shadow. Give each message its own background bubble or keep it bare, round the corners, and choose whether new messages slide or fade in, stack from the top or the bottom, and fade away after a set time. Usernames can keep their Kick colours or use one colour of your own, and you can add avatars, timestamps and a small platform icon.
- Font, size, colours, outline and shadow
- Per-message background bubbles with adjustable opacity
- Slide or fade animations, newest at the top or bottom
- Optional avatars, timestamps and platform icons
- Messages can fade out after a set number of seconds
Keep the noise off the screen
Turn on Hide commands and the overlay leaves out messages like !points and !hunt, so the screen shows conversation instead of bot commands. Hide bot messages does the same for your chat bot's replies, and a word list keeps anything you never want on stream off the overlay. Set how many messages show at once, and older ones drop off.
More than a chat box
The chat overlay sits in the same editor as the rest of your stream: alerts, an activity feed, a top chatters leaderboard, an emote wall, polls, hotwords, and the bonus hunt and casino widgets slot streamers use. The same Kick connection runs the StreamNeeds chat bot, points and giveaways, so one setup covers the whole stream.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add my Kick chat to OBS?
- Connect your Kick channel in StreamNeeds, add the Live Chat widget to an overlay scene, copy the scene's browser-source link, and add it in OBS as a Browser source. Chat then appears on stream with a transparent background.
Does the overlay show Kick emotes?
- Yes. Kick emotes, including animated ones, show as images in the message, and you can change how large they are.
Can I hide commands and bot messages?
- Yes. Hide commands leaves out messages that start with !, Hide bot messages leaves out your bot's replies, and a blocked-words list keeps chosen words off the overlay.
What happens when a mod deletes a message?
- It disappears from the overlay too. Deletions by your moderators and by Kick's AI moderation are both mirrored.
Do I need to keep a chat popout open?
- No. Messages come straight from your connected Kick channel to the browser source, so there is no popout window to capture or crop.
