YouTube's sizes come from YouTube Help, “Manage your channel branding”: a banner of at least 2048 × 1152 and 6 MB or less, with text and logos kept in the middle.

Getting your YouTube banner right

YouTube shows a different slice of the same banner on TVs, computers and phones. TVs show all of it; phones show only a thin strip across the middle. Turn on “Show safe areas” and keep your name, schedule and logo inside the box, and let the rest be background.

Want to make channel art from scratch, with your name and schedule already placed safely? Try the YouTube banner maker.

How to change your YouTube banner

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio and choose Customization, then Branding.
  2. Under Banner image, click Change and upload your 2560 × 1440 picture.
  3. Check the device preview, adjust the crop if needed and click Publish.

Common questions

What size is a YouTube banner?

YouTube asks for at least 2048 × 1152 pixels in a 16:9 shape, 6 MB or less, and recommends 2560 × 1440 for TVs. We export 2560 × 1440 and keep the file under 6 MB.

What is the YouTube banner safe area?

It's the middle strip that every device shows: 1546 × 423 pixels on a 2560 × 1440 banner (1235 × 338 at the minimum size). Anything outside it can be cut off on phones and computers.

What size is a YouTube profile picture?

YouTube shows it as a small circle, 98 × 98 pixels, and takes files up to 15 MB. We export 800 × 800 so it stays sharp, and the preview shows the circle.

Why does my banner look cut off on my phone?

Phones only show the safe area in the middle. Move your words and logo into the marked box, or shrink the picture with the zoom slider, and download again.

Can I use the same picture for my Kick or Twitch banner?

Yes. Tick the Kick and Twitch sizes too, and drag each preview so it's framed well, since each platform's banner is a different shape.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark. Your picture is resized in your browser and never uploaded to us.
